The Metler Family

Their Journey Began With Hope:

The Metlers have had a heart for adoption and foster care since before they were married. When they were dating, they often talked about adoption and their hope to someday provide a stable, nurturing home to the kids who needed it most.

The Challenge They Faced:

A few years into marriage, they realized starting a biological family would not be simple. After many appointments, years of waiting, and a great deal of grief, they finally accepted that biological children were unlikely. In that season of loss, God clarified something important: He had called them to be parents—they simply needed to broaden their understanding of how He might build their family.

When Support Made the Difference:

They began learning about foster care and adoption, eventually becoming licensed foster parents. Through foster care, they experienced some of the greatest joys as well as some of the hardest heartbreaks. In total, they served in foster care for five and a half years.

After serving as foster parents and adopting their son, the Metlers began pursuing private adoption to continue growing their family. Shortly after beginning that process, unexpectedly, God opened the door for a former foster child to potentially come back into their care. They continued pursuing private adoption—waiting to see whether God might close a door on one of these paths. Instead, He left both wide open. Later that year, their former foster daughter came back in their care through permanent private guardianship. That very same week, a single expectant mom contacted them and asked if they would adopt her child. Early the next year, they welcomed their youngest, and their lives have been full and joy-filled ever since.

A Family Made Whole:

Most recently, they felt the Lord leading them to take a final step to move beyond guardianship. They believed He was inviting them to formally adopt their former foster daughter. Again, through God’s provision and timing, her adoption was finalized in early 2026–nine years after her initial foster placement.

Nate and Christy Metler are parents today thanks to foster care and adoption. They are the proud parents of three children who each have a unique adoption story marked by God’s provision and care. Nate has served on the board of Legacy of Blessings since spring 2024.

You Can Help Create the Next Story:

For the Metlers, adoption reflects the heart of the Gospel. They have come to believe, “God adopted us into His family through Christ, and we believe we are called to mirror that love by welcoming children into ours.”
